The Health Status of Women in Developing Countries of the World

This paper reviews the health status and major health needs of women in developing countries. This includes high fertility, high maternal mortality, major sequelae from pregnancy, inadequate maternity care, unsafe abortion, and poor nutrition. These health needs are discussed in the context of the status of womentheir low level of education, early marriage and childbearing, and hard physical labour. Yet, the women of the family are expected to play the important role of health educator and provider of primary health care for the family.
