Breast Feeding Beyond Six Months: Mothers' Perceptions of the Positive and Negative Consequences

The positive and negative emotional and physical experiences of 152 long-term breast-feeding American and Canadian mothers are described. These highly motivated mothers believed that breast feeding their babies past 6 months enhanced the infants' emotional and physical health, and provided themselves with loving relationships with their infants.
