Study of Physical and Psycho-social Development of Pre-school Children

Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), a national programme of the Government of India has health, nutrition, and pre-school education components of services. This study compares the physical and psycho-social development of pre-school children in the age group 45 years from two different areas viz. ICDS and non-ICDS villages within the same community development block by selected anthropomentric, psychological, and social maturity criteria. It was revealed that children in the ICDS area were significantly better nourished (P < 0.05), better in perception of forms, colour matching, and scored better in Total Social Maturity scores, and the social spheres of self direction, occupation, communication, socialization, and occupation.
