Mineral Content of Breast Milk from North Indian Mothers Giving Birth Preterm and at TermImplication for Mineral Nutrition of Preterm Infants
Department of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, R.N.T. Medical College Udaipur, India
Zinc, copper, magnesium and calcium content of preterm and term milk from Indian mothers was analysed at different periods of lactation. There was no significant difference between levels of these minerals in the two groups. Expressed breast milk is likely to be short of the requirement of these minerals in a premature infant and it seems reasonable to consider supplementation of minerals for Indian infants.
