Serum Zinc, Copper, Calcium and Phosphorous in Pregnant Women and their Newborns*

Serum zinc, copper, calcium and phosphorus in 194 women hospitalized for delivery at Mottahedin (Public) and Misaghiedh (Private) Maternity Hospitals before delivery and from cord at the delivery of the placenta were determined. No significant differences were found in the serum zinc, copper, calcium and phosphorus levels between the two groups of pregnant women. However, the serum zinc and copper levels in cord blood in the case of the private group were significantly higher (p < 0.01) compared to the public group. No significant differences were found between the serum calcium and phosphorus levels between these two groups.
