The pattern of bean consumption and laboratory findings in patients with favism, G-6-P-D deficient and normal individuals were studied. There was no relationship between favism, the weekly frequency intake of raw bean and number of beans consumed in each meal, when compared with G-6-P-D deficient and control groups.

The mean value of serum gamma globulin, and alpha-2 globulin was lower in patients with favism as compared with G-6-P-D deficient and normal groups. Total serum lipids, total serum cholesterol and serum bilirubin, however, were found to be greater in patients suffering from favism as compared to G-6-P-D deficient and normal individuals.

A higher frequency of blood group O was observed in patients with favism.
